Saucy Bullets are often placed behind a Sputterbird Teaser, Saucy Daisy Chain or Spreaderbar as the trailer bait. it simulates a wide range of bait fish species struggling to catch up to the teaser. This is the first target for any game fish searching for an easy meal. A bullet shaped weighted head and double skirts slide through the water with minimal drag and maximum attraction. the skirts move in response to vibrations in the line created by the teaser. A keeled weight of 3-6oz keeps it horizontal, without rollover. The hook locks into the back of the head to stay in any position (usually vertical).
Saucy Bullets come in a wide variety of colors and weights to match the natural food source where you fish.
Heavier Bullets (5 and 6 oz) run deeper and can be fished faster and provide a bigger meal. They generally work better fished further back in your spread, with or without a teaser in front. All are “keel weighted”, with most of the weight located in the bottom half of the head. Each has a hidden air pocket in the top of the head to promote stability. This reduces any tendency to rotate while being trolled either as a single lure or behind a Sputterbird, even if used with rigged dead baits.
Often adding a soft trailer bait to the hook will induce strikes as it moves behind the skirt. It should not be too bulky, you may need to cut it off at the head. You will find some good trailer options in a variety of colors available from Saucy Lures. It has the added advantage of keeping the hook in a good orientation for solid hookups.
These 8" or 6" soft plastic trailers can be added to the hook of any of the lures we offer to place the hook in the right position for improving hookups and adding attraction to the trailer of any bait. You can also add liquid or gel scent to it, creating a scent trail for game fish to follow. Popular colors are white, blue clear, green, chartreuse, purple and pink.
