The new Side Planing Spreader Bar from Saucy Lures consists of a patent pending “Side Planing” plate attached to the triangular support harness that runs from your line to the bar. It is attached by three heavy (400lb test) monofilament lines to keep the bar running straight, even in waves. This keeps the plate running at an angle to the bar at all times, submerging to maximize side force to the bar. This means you have the ability to move the bar further out from your boat and run bigger spreader bars with more squid at modest boat speeds of 3 to 5 knots.
The entire rig is symmetrical so all you need to do to change the side direction is bring it in and flip it over. Two, or even four, planer bars can be run at a time without getting tangled because you can vary the distance back to create separation. Zig-zag patterns are often used and turns can be made without crossing lines.
This replaces the use of outriggers. Lines go out without the hassle of outrigger lines and premature releases. All rods can be in holders around the back deck, easy to see and follow. You can easily run a line down the center of the pattern with a normal spreader bar, rigged bait or daisy chain run way back. Use a "shotgun" pole to lift this line above all the other lines you run.
